I bought this for my parents as an upgrade from their existing Breville Hot Cup, which doesn't have the variable dispenser. It looked great, and the variable dispenser was ideal, but the water had a nasty chemical taste to it, despite following all instructions given. I emailed customer support, but had already taken it back for an exchange by the time they got back to me 11 days later. Replacement model had the same problem. Advice from customer support was to flush through with lemon juice, white vinegar or bicarbonate of soda... failing that, descale it. We tried the white vinegar option, but the taste was worse than ever so we reluctantly gave up and took it back for a full refund. It's a shame because operationally it was perfect, and exactly what they wanted. It just defeats the object of making yourself a nice cuppa if you then have to hold your nose and gulp it down quickly to avoid the taste. I have since read other customer reviews and this seems to be quite a common issue, though plenty of people were delighted with their purchase and had no problems at all. I would advise anyone considering buying this item to be sure of the seller's returns policy, just in case!
